Of Bricks and Budas

The decade that was the 1950s saw Australia enjoy high levels of immigration from Europe and an explosion of building both domestic and commercial. In Geelong Victoria, a young Ron Dew saw an opportunity to begin a business that would service this growth, that was the delivery of bricks from Brick and Pipe Industries, Melbourne. But Ron had a vision that to do this he would need a “big truck” and so he researched what was on offer. After much consideration he decided that the International LDF195 with the Buda diesel engine would more than fit the bill.

His decision based on that Colliers Transport in Brooklyn had a fleet of up to 8 of these trucks with bulk tanks towing tanker trailers and Manufacturers Bottling Company (CUB) also had two for delivery
