Exploring the Land Rover Series 2A with Russell Collins
1 min read

Russell Collins has a fascinating story to share about his 2A Land Rover, a vehicle with an undeniable legacy. Originally an xpmg, this Land Rover changed hands when a friend of Russell's, John Moylan from Edgeworth, New South Wales, acquired it when it was just nine years old. John, with his impeccable craftsmanship, undertook the significant task of fitting a C240 diesel into it. His meticulous work included creating a bespoke bell housing, engine mounts, and ensuring compatibility with the existing Land Rover clutch and gearbox. This modification propelled the Land Rover's horsepower to 74, a notable upgrade compared to its predecessors. It's astonishing to note that the engine has remained in this condition for over four decades. Years later, a stroke of fate led Russell to stumble upon this very Land Rover on eBay. Recognizing its significance, he promptly purchased it, bringing back a piece of history intertwined with personal memories. He even possesses a scrapbook documenting the Land Rover's adventures, including trips to Ayers Rock and across Australia. Driving it is a pleasure. With the capability to maintain 50 miles an hour even on an incline, and boasting nearly 30 miles per gallon, the Land Rover is a testament to its enduring design. However, time took its toll on the vehicle. When Russell acquired it, significant restorations were required. The chassis needed attention, particularly the rear cross member and front spring hangers. Additionally, the firewall underwent a significant overhaul due to rot caused by previous modifications. Despite the challenges, Russell's dedication never wavered. Come September, the Land Rover is set to receive a fresh coat of paint, symbolizing a new chapter in its storied journey. This vehicle, imbued with so much history, will remain a cherished possession for Russell, never to be sold. It's not just the vehicle but the inherited watch from his mate that serves as a constant reminder of the past, encapsulating memories, craftsmanship, and the spirit of adventure. #landrover #4x4 #landrovers
